Sims - Bad Time Zoo (Doomtree)
Sims had a lot to live up to following on from his 'Lights Out' album dropped back in 05', and for any artists this is where the worry comes with the whole moving forward ish the next album has to be better it has to grow etc. But I'm not sure Sims had to have these worries, with his mad flows, nice lyrics and some of the nicest beats from fellow Doomtree artist Laserbeak. I think the conclusion was these two were born to make heavy hip hop without losing the content that an album needs to stand up as a classic.
Thick tracks, laced with some of the nicest production I've heard in a while and Sims smashing it on every rap with pure poetry. It will be a great shame if this doesn't get the same light as the other Doomtree solo albums; Dessa (A Badly Broken Code), Paper Tiger (Made like Us) and then Laserbeak (Legend Recognize Legend) all bringing their own uniqueness to the overall crews sound. Can't wait for a new crew project, but still these heads are ahead of the game and bring something fresh on solo ting to a scene which has sort of forgotten the music.
For an album out of the Doomtree camp that is pure hip hop you need to check this !

Mudmowth & Metabeats 'Sledgehammer Kisses'
Associated Minds are one of my favourite UK labels and probably the only one I check nowadays since everyone else has shut up shop, as mc's jump on house beats and hip hop producers fade into the weed smoke. Coming through in a scene that struggles to release professional music, AM always seem to be on top of their game from the music to the artwork.
It’s just utter bliss to bump 8 tracks of straight up hip hop. Mudmowth is ahead of the game in my opinion, the battle raps have sick little twists / concepts on em' , and he's one of the best when coming with that real life poetry, painting pictures in your mind style. Metabeats selects them nice samples, chops em' slickly and adds them nice live sounding drums. It’s all about that ish, when done with finesse ! It finishes with 'Concrete Buttercup' by far is one of my favourite tracks on this little album which is also one of two tunes co-produced by P.L.O who adds musical additions all through out the cd. Hopefully these two will be dropping another project sometime in the near future. If you wana listen to some raw arse music , with a non illiterate mc and a dirty samples beat strapper this will be right up your street !!
Oh yeah the feature: SonnyJim, Skamma and Richie Hayes all come nice and blend with the project with ease .
